So, we decided to simply replace the glass rather than the entire table but, I took the opportunity to increase the surface area to accomodate six people vice four. Problem was, the chrome pipe pedestal was never designed for the larger and heavier piece of glass. Because of this, anytime you leaned on the table even a little bit, the pipe would flex and the table would rock causing serious "white caps on the coffee".
After about a dozen meals at the table, I put making a new, sturdier pedestal on my mini-project list but didn't get around to it until about a year later. During that year, I began thinking about the design and decided I would use some of our Travertine stone tile for the horizontal surfaces and trim it out in red oak. |
