22JAN09 - This winter has been the worst for gophers that I've ever seen. We occasionally get them in the backyard but never in the front. This year however, both neighbors across the street had dozens of mounds and when I came home from work this week, I saw that one of the pesky bastids had actually dug under the street to get to our yard.

I've tried most every remedy known to man with limited success at best but the other day I got the idea to try and use carbon monoxide. Obviously, this wasn't an original idea because a quick Web check turned up lots of links on the subject. So, I decided to build a Rube Goldberg hose rig and pumped some nicee warm exhaust into the tunnels for about a half an hour. Never saw one come up for air so who knows if it was a waste of time or not.
